How to use FTP

To make an FTP connection you can use a standard Web browser * (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.) or a dedicated FTP software program, referred to as an 'FTP Client'. To use an FTP client you need to have an FTP account to the web account where you plan to upload your files.

* When using a Web browser for an FTP connection, FTP uploads are difficult, or sometimes impossible, and downloads are not protected (not recommended for uploading or downloading large files).

When connecting with an FTP Client (such as FileZilla or CuteFTP), uploads and downloads are simple and efficient. Additionally, you have added security and features. For example, you're able to resume incomplete downloads and uploads. This is a very nice feature for people using dial-up connections which frequently break down.
